Stopping Generational Trauma

What We Stand For Is Freedom

We believe that children are born free—free from conditioning, limiting beliefs, and even the grip of ego. Like all beings in nature, they come into this world deeply connected to their instincts, intuition, and inner wisdom. Their minds haven’t yet been cluttered by rigid systems or stagnant information. They are open, present, and in harmony with the universe, nature, and themselves.

This natural intelligence is something no school or university can manufacture. It’s not taught—it’s remembered, lived, and expressed when children are trusted and supported in their freedom.

As parents, our role is not to control, teach, or mold our children into who we think they should be. Instead, we see ourselves as caretakers, guides, and safe-keepers—creating the conditions for them to remain free and whole as they grow.

To truly hold this space for our children, we must turn inward. Rather than project our wounds or fears onto them, we do the work of unlearning—healing what no longer serves us so we don’t pass it down unconsciously.

Freeing ourselves from old patterns—whether conscious or hidden—is the only way to stop recreating what we’ve inherited. When we release control, our children are free to live their own lives, not a reflection of ours. They don't need to become a “mini-you.” They came here to be fully themselves.

That’s why we support parents on this journey. At A Place To Be, we offer a free online community, workshops, retreats, and local support groups—gathering indoors, outdoors, and sometimes out in the wild: at the beach, in the mountains, or among Madeira’s many beautiful places.

Because when we come together in truth and trust, freedom becomes something we don’t just believe in—but something we live.

How we’ll unlearn together

When visiting APTB you might want to join us and other parents in the garden to inquire your thoughts using The Work by Byron Katie, or explore your beliefs by meeting them with compassion and understanding in Gabor Mate style. We might walk you through Jiddu Krishnamurti’s way of observing your behaviour so that you can get to know who you think you are and let go of the conditioning you’ve received since you were inside your mother’s womb. Nurturing your inner child is the most efficient way to reach a state of wholeness that will give you the natural ability to love your children unconditionally and stop generational trauma.

You can always access our online community to start before you come to APTB or after you’ve left.

How we’ll recharge together

Our ancestors used to spent most of their time outdoors in nature and sunlight, doing manual labour and eating and drinking real food instead of processed ‘things‘. At APTB we give you the opportunity to do exactly this: go for hikes in nature, use your body and mind to create, walk barefoot In grass, take ice baths, take time off screens and blue light, do yoga, meditations and many more activities that will boost your energy - If and when you want to.
